William Hill is actually the name of one big British entrepreneur who was doing business connected with postal and electric services. Luckily for him, he quickly came up with an idea about investing in a new fast-growing bookmaking industry.
He did not give up on his idea and started offering fixed-odds on various sporting events (mainly on horse racing and football) in 1934. At first, the bets were accepted solely via post or phone, which created a huge gap over the competition allowing him to become one of the leaders in the field up to this day.
What factors led to such a success? William Hill was always striving to be one step ahead of the competition. This was the motto back in the ’60s when he was opening the first high-street betting shop in the UK, as well as in 1998 when William Hill was the first bookmaker to start accepting bets via the Internet.
Currently, bookmaker William Hill is a true icon of bookmaking. The company hires more than 15 thousand people in 12 countries worldwide, offers markets for more than 60 thousand football matches annually, operates around 3 thousand betting shops all around the UK. The bookmaking firm has also been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 2002 and has the annual turnover of several million pounds! Starting from 2019, William Hill became the official partner of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Important notice for Polish punters! Following the enforcement of the gambling act, the bookmaking company William Hill stopped accepting bettors with the Polish IP address.
