The FA without any mercy for cheating football player who made money at bookmaker

England is known as the country who came up with the idea of modern football as a game. They made the rules, they started the first competitions and leagues and created first teams in the world, some aged more than 150 years old at the moment. It is therefore no wonder that they are so strict about the rules and policies, especially those concerned with gambling and cheating. Twenty-six year old Bradley Wood, felt the harshness of the English Football Association on his skin more than any player around the world. The player who up until a while ago player for Lincoln City from English League Two, has been caught placing bets at the bookmaker and thus has been disqualified from football by the English FA for six years!

The story goes that at the at the beginning of 2017 the player came up with a great idea of how to get easy money by doing almost nothing. He decided he will place few bets in which he will play and cheat both the bookmaker and English football rules both at once. Wood put his money on two football matches of the FA Cup between his team and Ipswich Town and then Brighton and Hove Albion and selected the option for him as a player to receive a yellow card booking in both games. He did as he planned and won both bets.

Everything would be fine, if not for clever employees of the bookmaker that he placed his bets on. Their job is to be sceptic, curious and make sure that everything that seems fishy would be properly checked. They thought that is is highly impossible for someone to make such a fortune on only two bets, especially in games between lower league team.

The player was finally caught and as it turned out, his plan was not as brilliant as he though. The money he won are just enough to cover the penalty fee he have to pay as well as the costs of the trial (oh well, maybe he will get some pounds left to try to bet again or by himself something nice). What is more, the FA was even more strict with him, as he was severely punished was his crimes against football rules. Wood has been banned from playing any football for period of six year which means that the player could return to the field in the spring of 2024 when he will be 32 years old and with such a long gap in playing football at this level and his reputation, this means the end of his football career for good...
