Luckiest gamblers in the worldThe common opinion among the people is that you cannot make fortune out of sports betting and gambling overall. This is partially true, but there are cases of lucky punters that won millions while betting barely few pounds. In this article, we want to tell you the amazing stories of gamblers that were born under a lucky star and won fortunes.
A real believer
The first story is from the world of sports betting. In 2010 African Cup of Nations, Mali faced the host team of Angola. After 11 minutes of game time, it was 4:0 for the national team of Angola. Nobody expected the result to change much, nobody but one punter. A brave punter from Mali placed a £5 bet for his team to level the score before the end of the match with 1000/1 odds. Then, in one of the most amazing comebacks in history of football, Mali players scored 4 goals in stoppage time and he won £5,000.
Welshman won fortune over U2 and soap operas
When it comes to accumulator novelty bets, the greatest example is that of a man from Wales, who in 1989 placed a bet for few completely unrelated events to remain unchanged or happen until after the 2000. His 5-fold combo bet included Cliff Richard being knighted, U2 continuing making music together as well as tv soap operas Home and Away, Neighbours and Eastenders remaining on air at least until after the 2000. The odds for this accumulator bet were 6,479/1 overall and with £30 stake, the man claimed £194,400 eleven years later. Till this day, this is considered as one of the biggest payouts in the history of gambling.
Amazing accumulator bets
Another story concerned with an amazing multiple bet is not about a strange novelty bet, just regular accumulator of...15 bets. In 2001, a man called Mick Gibbs, placed 30 pence for a 15-fold football accumulator bet with a shocking 1,666,666 to 1 odds. Gibbs must have been born under a lucky star as he correctly predicted the outcomes of all 15 matches and won 500,000 pounds!
Staying in the category of shocking multiple bets, we have to mention the Frankie Dettori win in the Champions Day at Ascot. In 1996, to the amazement of all horse racing world, Dettori won his all races of this prestigious British competition. And although till this day it is considered as one of the greatest moments in the discipline’s history, it would not be as famous as it is today if it weren’t for a very special bet. Darren Yeats, one of Dettori fans, placed an 7-fold accumulator bet for rider to win all his races. With the odds of 25,000 to 1, he put about £60 and won a shocking £550,000!
