An internet or land-based bookmaker?
Bookmaker betting inseparably accompanies us in life. For ones it is a great type of entertainment, for others – a hobby and others get income out of it, which with time can become the main income source. Sports’ betting is also a kind of agreement, about what few people actually know, which is concluded between you as a bettor, later named the “client” and the bookmaker. The aim of this agreement is placing a bet in a written form on a coupon (at a ground-based bookmaker) or in an electronic type with the help of a computer and a web-browser on the online bookmaker’s site. We devote this article namely to rivalry of land-based and internet bookmakers. Land bookmakers, also called betting shops, are at first sight different from the ones which offer their services in the net. First of all it is about financial aspect including taxation of ground bookmakers. The amount of taxation depends on a given country’s legislation. It in its turn is contradictory since it very often does not regulate the aspect of “online bureaus”, which often operate on a principle: “what is not forbidden is allowed”, which has led to domination of internet bookmakers on the gambling games market in the recent years. But these are still not all differences which separate these two completely different worlds… Internet bookmakers have superiority if to look at other aspects of such rivalry. First of all the key role here is being played by marketing policy. The majority of them advertises, sponsors or is partner of some well-known sport clubs. Such activity is identified with the club’s sponsor and also between the sponsor and the fans. As it is generally known – money makes money. But these are still not all “+” of such cooperation, what also greatly increases the authenticity of an online bookmaker. Now let’s get to the betting offer itself. Except from standard pre-play type of bets there also is an in-play section of bets – also bets which can be placed during the whole match. Only some ground firms (William Hill, Ladbrokes) offer you such possibility. Internet bookmakers also have, and maybe even in the majority of cases, amazing offers for particular kinds of sports, multitude of betting types to choose from and attractive bookmaker bonuses and promotions. All this has led to the future of ground-based bookmakers now being under a big question…
